10. Getting PDB files from the internet.

10.1 Protein structure files can be downloaded from the Protein Data Bank.

Try searching for hemoglobin:

10.2 Search Results

All entries in the PDB is identified by a four-letter code. For example, the PDB code for the insulin is '3ins'. Try click the "EXPLORE" button of the 1A00 entry.

 

10.3 Click "Download/Display File".


 

10.4 Save the PDB file


 

·  Save the file as 1A00.pdb

 

·  Try to practise what you have learnt to view the file 1A00.pdb and try to answer the following questions:

1. Hemoglobin is composed of how many polypeptide chains?
2. Does hemoglobin contain any beta-sheet?
