Academic Visit
The Department of Biochemistry has initiated, since 1999, an annual overseas student academic exchange trip for our students to visit universities and research institutions around the region in order for them to experience the learning environment and cultural background of their counterparts. Such a program is believed to be beneficial to science students as they normally are more technically oriented and have fewer opportunities to interact with students from other universities. The programme usually includes some formal and informal discussions, sight-seeing tours, lectures and visits to laboratories, hostels and museums etc. Participants commented the trips as truly memorable and have widened their horizon in looking at how biochemistry is offered in other institutions. Places visited for the past years included Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Chengdu, Singapore, Taiwan, London, Cambridge, Washington DC and Baltimore of the USA. The trips were subsidized by departmental private funds. |

The summer internship is designed to provide Biochemistry undergraduate major students, a special training in local biotechnology-related companies and make them familiar with the biotechnology industries in Hong Kong. However, some positions require students to work outside of Hong Kong.
The training period will last for around 8 to 12 weeks. The projects involved are mainly research oriented and supervised by a technical staff at post-doctoral level.
