(1) 一級結構 (primary structure) :蛋白質的序列稱之為蛋白質的「一級結構」。

(2) 二級結構 (secondary structure) :蛋白質有α螺旋 (helix)與 beta 折曲平面 (pleated sheet); 兩種主要而且規則的二級結構，由這些簡單的結構又可組合成一些獨立折疊的單元，稱之為模組（motif）。

(3) 三級結構 (tertiary structure) :蛋白質的三維結構

(4) 四級結構 (quaternary structure)：當一個蛋白質擁有多於－個多胜鏈 (polypeptide chain)　時，它們如何組合在一起。
