A DNA binding protein - GAL4 transcription factor

• Load "gal4.pdb"

• Change to "Cartoons" Display for protein atoms only

RasMol> select protein

RasMol> wireframe off

Now you can see the DNA only

RasMol> cartoons on

• You may use "AND", "NOT", and "OR' for more advanced selection

Try the following commands:

RasMol> select dna and backbone

RasMol> color green

RasMol> select not selected

RasMol> color bluetint

RasMol> select protein

RasMol> color cyan

RasMol> select dna

RasMol> spacefill on

• Selection of A and G of DNA

RasMol> select (A or G) and not backbone

RasMol> color magenta

• Selection of protein atoms that are within 5.0 Angstroms from DNA

RasMol> select within ( 5.0,dna) and protein

RasMol> color blue
